Sports Illustrated's Mike Beller took Cycle II, Week 1 honors for Tout Daily, riding 20-plus point performances by David Peralta (22 points), Eddie Butler (24.5) and Dylan Bundy (22.5) to finish with a commanding total of 156 points.
The RotoWire tandem of Vlad Sedler (132.45) and Jeff Erickson (124.45) both picked Bundy and Peralta, but also Clayton Kershaw (18.95), with Austin Hedges (23) pushing Vlad's squad while Jeff was able to exploit a big day from Derek Dietrich (22 points).
It is worthy of note how consistent Mr. Sedler has been, having finished fourth overall after Cycle I with 474.35 total points.
As for me, I was able to rebound from my Week 5 administrative snafu, finishing fifth with 122.46 points, 1.15 behind BBHQ's Ray Murphy, and 2.4 points ahead of sixth placer Jeff Boggis. I too had the Bundy/Kershaw combo, but rode Caleb Joseph (24) to my top-five finish.
But, if anyone ever doubts the importance of an at-bat, Jeff Boggis was ahead of me by a point following the end of regulation play, but a 12th-inning single by Scott Schebler (18 points) leap-frogged me over my mate Mr. B.
Cycle II continues this coming Friday. You can check the standings here. Log into the site every Friday and we each provide a couple of picks we like for the evening.
For the archivists, the Touts play a daily game against one another every Friday at DraftKings. Lord Zola is the curator of this fine mess, which breaks the season into five four-week cycles, with the two teams garnering the most points over each advancing to a final championship that includes the Tout collecting the most points over all 20 weeks.
And, tune into The Tout Wars Hour on the FNTSY network this Thursday from 8-10 PM, ET, as our special guest is Derek Carty, who romped Cycle I and who will discuss The BAT, his system for DFS success.
