UEFA Championship League (CL) Group Stage Matchday 4 is scheduled for today and tomorrow. Our recommendations for your fantasy lineups are below. Note that DraftKings offers UEFA Championship League Group Stage contests for both days. Hurry up, DraftKings contests for today lock at 2:45 PM Eastern Time.
Recommendations for your lineup are based in part on the odds set by English bookmakers for each game. We recognize that those guys could be awfully wrong sometimes. But then again, that’s soccer and that’s why we love the game.
The standard lineup for each DraftKings contest has one goalkeeper, two defenders, two midfielders, two forwards and one utility player.
Lineup suggestions for Tuesday, November 1 matches
We know that Arsenal and Atletico Madrid will win and that the odds are Bayern Munchen will also prevail. So far, so good. But how will Manchester City do after the drubbing in Barcelona? That’s the game to watch. Can you fit Lionel Messi and company under the salary cap?
Goalkeepers (choose one): Petr Cech (Arsenal), Alphonse Areola (PSG)
Defenders (choose two): Stefan Savic (Atletico Madrid), Philipp Lahm (Bayern Munchen), Marquinhos (PSG)
Midfielders (choose two): Angel Di Maria (PSG), Mesut Ozil (Arsenal), Arjen Robben (Bayern Munchen), Nicolás Gaitán (Atletico Madrid)
Forwards (choose two): Edinson Cavani (PSG), Antoine Griezmann (Atletico Madrid), Thomas Muller (Bayern Munchen), Olivier Giroud (Arsenal)
Utility (choose one): Fernando Torres (Atletico Madrid), Raffael (Borussia Monchengladbach), Sergio Aguero (Manchester City - more confidence in him after his two goals last weekend)
Lineup suggestions for Wednesday, November 2 matches
We are certain that Real Madrid will beat Legia Warsaw. Try to field as many Real players as you can fit under the cap. I also like Sevilla playing at home against Dinamo Zagreb.
Goalkeepers (choose one): Gian Luigi Buffon (Juventus), Sergio Rico (Sevilla FC)
Defenders (choose two): Kamil Glik (Monaco), Andrea Barzagli (Juventus), Marcel Schmelzer (Borussia Dortmund), Fabinho (Monaco)
Midfielders (choose two): Samir Nasri (Sevilla FC), Stephen N’Zonzi (Sevilla FC), Bernardo Silva (Monaco), Toni Kroos (Real Madrid)
Forwards (choose two): Jesus Corona (FC Porto), Luciano Vietto (Sevilla FC), Valère Germain (Monaco), Karim Benzema (Real Madrid)
Utility (choose one): Jamie Vardy (Leicester City), Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (Borussia Dortmund), Andre Silva (FC Porto)
You must have noticed that not all of the above names are top players. Where is Cristiano Ronaldo? The reason is simple: there is a mix of salary levels to allow you to fit your lineup under the dreaded salary cap. Due to an interesting twist, DraftKings qualifies several players as both forward and midfielder. Unfortunately, that may not help your salary cap, as all of these players are quite expensive. However, one strategy is to pick relatively inexpensive defenders to limit your salary exposure. Potentially, you could scroll all the way down the players list and field the least expensive defenders, even if they may not be featured on the pitch by their teams. By following this strategy, you may be able to accommodate the best strikers on your fantasy team.
