Following are my top selections for the Mastersball Daily 50-50 GPP contest at RealTime Fantasy Sports on Monday, September 19. As always, $135 in prizes are available for just a $5 entry fee. Do not delay joining, as the Mastersball contests remain very popular in 2016.
Even with such tantalizing aces as Clayton Kershaw ($9900), Noah Syndergaard ($9500) and Madison Bumgarner ($9400) headlining the Monday night pitching docket, you will still need a second hurler, likely at a much lower cost to balance out your roster.
It may seem foolish to select a starter taking the mound in Colorado, especially the 16th-ranked arm on Monday, but that is exactly what I am recommending. Tyler Anderson is a former first-rounder who has pitched very well at Coors Field as a rookie (5-1, 3.04 ERA). In his most recent two home starts, against good offenses in the Dodgers and Giants, Anderson allowed just two earned runs in 13 2/3 innings.
Top that off with the Rockies’ Monday opponent, the St. Louis Cardinals. While the Redbirds remain in the wild card hunt, they are again having major trouble scoring runs, with just 15 over their last seven games, which included four losses. The clincher is that St. Louis has just an 18-23 record this season against left-handed pitching, which makes Anderson a very nice stealth buy at just $4200, less than half the price of the big boys.
My hitter recommendation of the day is hardly surprising, as stacking Colorado hitters at home is a tried and true approach. Among the hottest Rockies currently is Charlie Blackmon. The outfielder is 14-for-31 (.452) during his seven-game hitting streak, which includes three doubles, two triples, three home runs, five RBI and nine runs scored. Even at a steep $6700, Blackmon is worth the money topping your Monday lineup.
