Coming off a 12-inning game Sunday night during which they used eight pitchers, the Chicago Cubs could use a strong starting pitching performance Monday night against wild card contender Miami. No one better to have on the mound than Kyle Hendricks, who at $7600 is only the fifth-most expensive hurler on Monday. The right-hander is coming off a July during which his ERA and WHIP were an identical 1.07. At Wrigley this season, Hendricks has a 1.36 ERA.
Martin Prado is a quiet third in the National League batting race at .324 and is coming off a July during which he hit .417. In his last six games, the third baseman is even hotter, going 9-for-18 including two home runs and eight RBI. Even though he is facing Kendricks Monday night, I like Prado as a bargain play at just $3600.
