Tonight begins the final leg of the Tout Wars Challenge, as the Touts duke it out for the final three golden tickets to the August 26 Championship as I try to be Charlie, not Verucha Salt.

By the same token, you can match up with me at RealTime's Friday "Beat the Experts" contest (note that both contests are held at Real Time Sports) where if recent trends continue, you stand a chance of telling the world you whipped me and earning a tidy profit of $2 in the process. What could be more fun or a better investment?

As I am in the midwest touring with my band The Biletones, where we played Madison last night, and head for Chicago for a show in Naperville tomorrow night (at Frankie's Blue Room, where we would love to see you if the opportunity presents itself) and where summer showers are certainly hitting the pavement. In the Majors, it looks like the same precipitation will hit Cleveland, which should not impact much. Otherwise, summer will shine on the schedule of games.

Since no form of logic or number crunching seems to follow my picks, I did select players I like to begin this final cycle of Tout and Beat the Experts. I channeled the Zen that has mostly served me through the years. That means pick judiciously, but trust my initial instincts. So, we shall see what that produces.

Since aside from Max Scherzer, no really dominant pitchers are chucking tonight, I went for a pair of quiet starters whom I hope will help me channel Charlie, starting with the Pale Hose's Jose Quintana ($7800) taking on the Twins. Second is Vince Velasquez ($6800) facing the Braves. Now, I need to qualify that the Braves are not very good, but similarly, every time I pick a stud in DFS pitching against the team, they are toast. So, ideally Velasquez will come to my aid.

As for hitters, I have to like the Reds against the equally struggling Padres and the equally erratic Edwin Jackson. So, I like Joey Votto ($6500) and backstop Tucker Barnhart ($2500), hoping they help me to Oompa Loompa land.

Remember that if you are struggling to make DFS baseball work for you, try Todd's fantastic new Daily Rankings which break down his best picks and can be tweaked to match the contest you are playing. This is a Platinum only feature.

And, don't forget, you can hit me up @lawrmichaels and also feel free to comment, flatter, cajole, ridicule, bewitch, bother, and bewilder in the comments section below.
