I kill myself making picks like Vincent Velasquez one week, so I play it cautious last week grabbing Chris Sale to beat the Braves, and the White Sox southpaw gets creamed. Note that Sale was the logical selection according to 79% of us, so while I began last week just 10 points off the lead in the Tout Wars Challenge, Sale's meltdown and a limp team gave me the worst score both at Tout and at RealTime's Friday "Beat the Experts" contest. That means 199 folks outsmarted me and scored a hot $2 profit.
From now on out, I am going with my instincts (I think: this is DFS) and try not to pay more attention than is necessary to logical choices, like Sale seemed to be at the time.
Note there is a chance of showers in Detroit and Atlanta.
Still, I am guessing that by going with Madison Bumgarner ($9400) pitching in friendly Petco. I also suspect that just as a gaggle of us thought Sale would manhandle the Braves that MadBum will have his way with the Friars. Still, it is a logical choice to me, offset by my crapshoot of Ervin Santana ($6400), twirling against the dangerous Indians. Big Erv is coming off a monster two-hit game against the lesser Athletics, but Santana actually has four solid starts in a row.
The pricey Bumgarner did force me to quiet my outfield down, but I still grabbed the fine troika of Marcell Ozuna ($4800), Denard Span ($4400), and Stephen Piscotty ($4300) all of whom can simply hit.
Remember that if you are struggling to make DFS baseball work for you, try Todd's fantastic new Daily Rankings which break down his best picks and can be tweaked to match the contest you are playing. This is a Platinum only feature.
