It is the Fourth of July weekend, which means family, BBQ, and some fireworks, ideally with both my DFS teams and in the sky the holiday evening.
That means you can play RealTime's weekly "Beat the Experts" contest, where you get a chance to outsmart 198 other DFS players and me (no entry fee with a $2 payout if you can beat my score). It also means a new month of the Tout Wars Challenge with another shot to get that golden ticket to the finals tourney.
Note that rain is threatening in Philadelphia, Washington, and New York this evening, though likely these are all just summer showers.
For pitchers this week, the sensible selection for me is Jacob deGrom ($8700) against the Cubs, who are very good, but who like to swing the bat, so the gamble is at home, deGrom can put the upstart Cubbies in their place. On the lower end, Steven Wright ($6800) is also at home, facing the struggling Angels and aside from his last start, the knuckleballer has been the steadiest are at Fenway this year, delivering a solid 12.9 points per start.
As for hitters, I like Ian Desmond ($4900), just off a hot nine-game hitting streak matching up against the Twins and Ervin Santana, while Brandon Belt ($5700) has become my Friday default left-handed hitting first sacker.
Remember that if you are struggling to make DFS baseball work for you, try Todd's fantastic new Daily Rankings which break down his best picks and can be tweaked to match the contest you are playing. This is a Platinum only feature.
