MLB has split the Saturday slate right down the middle with eight day games and eight night games (Rays-Orioles with a day-night doubleheader). The slates could not be more different.
The evening slate features Madison Bumgarner ($14,000) against the Phillies, favored by an unheard of minus 319. There is no logical way to fade him. Julio Teheran ($12,600) only saves you $1,400. But I can’t spend half my money on pitching. The gamble here is the first major league start for Oakland's Dillon Overton ($4,400). He has been red hot in Triple-A and he is a high strikeout pitcher. Andrew McCutchen ($3,100) is too cheap to keep off your roster. I wish the Astros featured more left-handed hitters against the Royals' Chris Young, but the only viable lefty is Colby Rasmus ($3,900). Red Sox vs. Rangers is the only other game that figures to feature offense.
