The DFS universe has not been so friendly to me (note I did not say I picked poorly), so this might indeed be a good time to take me on at RealTime's weekly "Beat the Experts" contest, where you get a chance to outsmart 198 other DFS players and me (no entry fee with a $2 payout if you can beat my score).
With clear--and sometimes burning--skies across the nation, a full complement of games should move along with no overt interruptions.
Note that in addition to beating the masses, I am also scrambling at the Tout Wars Challenge while trying to beat the masses at RealTime's, so again arms are where I am looking first. So again, I hedged money on the most promising low budget hurlers, taking a pair of guys who are coming off great starts.
Jeff Samardzjia ($7800) gets to face the Brewers and their whopping 467 whiffs against right-handers, while Matt Shoemaker ($5900), who has resurrected himself with five straight quality starts, faces the injured and offensively anemic Athletics (it pains me to say this).
The last cycles I have been trying to milk--although in all honesty, unsuccessfully--the low end pitchers by stacking my outfield with some big sticks, and the truth is my hitters have indeed come through all over. That means Kole Calhoun ($5100) facing Kendall Graveman seems too good to pass up, while Michael Conforto ($5000) against the Braves' John Gant (0-1, 5.62 ERA, 1.75 WHIP) similarly seems like potential fun.
On the low end, second sacker Whit Merrifield ($3500) has hit safely in nine of his last ten games and is hitting .344-2-4 this past week, so I am hoping the Royals' new keystone man will keep it up for at least another day.
Remember that if you are struggling to make DFS baseball work for you, try Todd's fantastic new Daily Rankings which break down his best picks and can be tweaked to match the contest you are playing. This is a Platinum only feature.
