With a full slate of games to be played today, we should not have problems finding players to build a winning team. My first starting pitcher is Cole Hamels ($8,600), playing at home and going against Dallas Keuchel, who has not been consistent this year. My second starter is Zack Greinke ($9,100), fresh off a stellar last outing and with home-field advantage. Looking for inexpensive pitchers? Think Adam Conley ($6,100), if you must.
There are several question marks to resolve when building the offense today. The San Diego Padres face Aaron Blair. Is this the game to recommend Padres hitters at last? Will Julio Urias meet the expectations of a promising career or is the 19-year-old still too green and we should pile up on Rockies hitters? How will the Red Sox perform in an NL park without David Ortiz? Big Papi may play one game in San Francisco but no more. Food for your thoughts.
Unwilling to take too many risks, I am going with Diamondbacks and Rangers hitters, combining inexpensive players like Nomar Mazara ($4,400) and Jake Lamb ($4,500) with pricey ones, like Paul Goldschmidt ($6,800) and Carlos Gonzalez ($6,600).
