To celebrate the new season, on Monday, I will be ready to take you on from my regular spot at RealTime Fantasy Sports - the Mastersball Daily 50-50 GPP contest with $135 in prizes available for just a $5 entry fee. Do not delay joining, as the Mastersball contests should again be very popular in 2016.
Like many I assume, I am favoring warm-weather games on Monday’s traditional Opening Day. Here are a few of my picks.
Zack Greinke makes his Arizona debut at home Monday night against a Colorado offense that won’t scare many pitchers, especially outside of Coors Field. At $9600, Greinke is only tied for the fifth most expensive pitcher on Monday and I believe will be worth the investment.
Tampa Bay’s Drew Smyly isn’t sexy, but he is steady. Coming off a nice spring during which he posted a 3.38 ERA and fanned 14 against just two walks in 16 innings, he gets the home start against a powerful offense in the Blue Jays. Still, at $7400, I am in.
Offensively, I am putting $6500 on Mike Trout, at home against the World Series-favorite Cubs and Jake Arrieta, who is supposed to be past his recent thumb blister. 18 RBI and a .412 batting average this spring indicates to me that Trout is more than ready. I think he and his mates might have a bit more incentive than usual against the high-profile Cubbies. For that reason, I doubled up with Trout’s mate, Kole Calhoun ($5000).
