As the NHL season winds down and playoff teams are falling into their slots, the last week or two of the regular seaosn is still very significant. Losing or gaining two points is crucial and could be the difference between being a number three seed or a number eight. The NHL has a full schedule with ten games taking place on the last day of March, but hopefully not all of these contenders will go out like lambs. Pittsburgh versus Nashville looks to be a great game and hopefully Calgary will show up tonight on the road at Los Angeles after getting their teeth kicked in last night in Anaheim by the final of 8-3. Anyway, here are a few Hot Tamales I like tonight and hopefully I won't jinx any of them the way I did Vincent Trocheck the other night.
Ryan Johansen - Nashville ($5300): While Johansen and the Preds are heading into Pittsburgh to play possibly the league's hottest team, I believe he can still give the DFS community a positive result tonight. He's been averaging 3.6 points per game over his last seven games with two goals and five assists. Johansen centers the Nashville top line and top power play unit and that should result in plenty of scoring chances tonight. With 15 shots in the last seven games, he's clearly not afriad to look for his own first. Nashville has the league's 10th best power play at 19.8% and are riding a two-game losing streak. They are also 5-4-1 in their last ten, so tonight is certainly no gimmie against the red hot Pens.
Nazim Kadri - Toronto ($5700): Kadri is a very streaky player on a horrible team in rebuild mode, but he's hot of late and against an equally struggling Buffalo squad, he could keep the lamp lit. Kadri has five goals and two assists in his last four games and three of those markers came on their horrid power play. He also plays on the Leafs' top line and top power play unit. See my ongoing theme of quality minutes allowing for quality scoring chances? Now there's not much else to add to this lesson on Kadri, so go get him in your lineup as your second center.
Joe Thornton - San Jose ($5800): Because Jumbo Joe will be your top center tonight, and as awesome as he's played all year, this doesn't even need to be delved into, but I will anyway. With three goals and eight assists in the Sharks' last ten games, Thornton is a must-start until further notice. In my ongoing theme of top line producers, Thornton centers the Sharks' top line with Joe Pavelski and these two are one of the NHL's top power couples. Thornton also skates on the Sharks' top power play unit which is 3rd in the league with a 22.4% conversion ranking. San Jose is hosting the struggling Vancouver Canucks and should keep the train rolling against one of the league's worst teams.
Marc-Andre Fluery - Pittsburgh ($9600): While Brian Elliott may be the hottest goalie on Earth lately, he's had to make some room in the hot tub for Marc-Andre Fluery over the last 10 games. The Flower is 9-1 in Pittsburgh's last ten games with a .926 Save Percentage and one shutout. The Penguins are hosting the 91-point Nashville Predators tonight in what should be the best game of the night. Fleury is 34-17 with five shutouts so far this season and is clearly the team's best defender because the rest of the actual defensemen are not of top caliber. The Pens' actual best defenseman is more of a forward in Kris Letang with his penchant for floating on defense and leading the break on the rush for Pittsburgh's high-powered offense.
