On Thursday, I will be ready to take you on from my regular spot - the Mastersball Daily 50-50 GPP contest with $90 in prizes available for just a $5 entry fee. Do not delay joining, as the Mastersball contests continue to be very popular.
Here are a few of my picks.
On the pitching side, most will probably load up on the big money hurler of the evening, Madison Bumgarner ($9600), who draws the Padres at Petco. Hard to argue with that logic, though it probably means finding a budget second starter to pair with him. My recommendation is Miami’s Jarred Cosart ($3900), back after missing two months due to vertigo. In his three September starts since returning, the 25-year-old righty has allowed just three earned runs in 15 2/3 frames for a 1.72 ERA. Cosart takes on the Phillies at home on Thursday.
It has been easy to spot the late-season contributions of Cardinals rookie center fielder Tommy Pham ($3000). The only reason the 27-year-old had an opportunity in the majors was the injury to Randal Grichuk. Now that Grichuk and Matt Holliday are back, it is a juggling act to keep them plus rookie Stephen Piscotty and Jason Heyward in the same lineup. But when Pham plays, he produces – four home runs and 13 RBI in 18 September games, of which he started just 10. Watch for the posting of St. Louis’ lineup this afternoon.
