On Thursday, I will be ready to take you on from my regular spot - the Mastersball Daily 50-50 GPP contest with $135 in prizes available for just a $5 entry fee. Do not delay joining, as the Mastersball contests continue to be very popular.

Here are a couple of my picks.

The numbers show three top starting pitchers on Thursday, but I am eyeing two. Chris Archer ($9200) has the Astros on the road, a matchup I think is too risky. That leaves no-brainer Max Scherzer and Jake Arrieta (both at $9400). Max takes on a Rockies offense that isn’t what it used to be, but Coors is still Coors. That leaves the Cubs’ ace, who should take down the re-tooled Braves at Wrigley and gets my vote as the no. 1 starter to own.

Having mentioned Archer and the Tampa Bay at Houston game above leads me to my second pick for the day. FantasyScore requires two starting pitchers and for my budget offering on Thursday, I like the Astros’ Collin McHugh ($6500). The young righthander has been especially good at Minute Maid Park this season and draws a lower-tier offense in the Rays.

Compete against the Mastersball staff at FantasyScore here and you can follow me @B_Walton.
