FScore-160x320On Thursday, I will be ready to take you on from my regular spot - the Mastersball Daily 50-50 GPP contest with $135 in prizes available for just a $5 entry fee. Do not delay joining, as the Mastersball contests continue to be very popular.

Here are a couple of my picks.

I am intrigued by the matchup of two of the National League’s best teams – St. Louis at Pittsburgh. With two starters needed in FantasyScore, I'm making the unusual move of taking both. With both teams missing key offensive cogs, this could be a low-scoring contest.

Carlos Martinez ($7700) of St. Louis is currently in competition to gain the last NL All-Star berth and has earned that consideration. The 23-year-old has a 2.95 road ERA this season and will be going for his 10th straight quality start this evening in the Steel City.

Jeff Locke ($3900) is half Martinez’ price and here is why I think he is a decent budget play. The Cardinals offense has been the team’s season-long weakness and it continues. The club is averaging just three runs per game during its 4-6 stretch over the last 10. St. Louis has performed relatively poorly against left-handed hurlers this season (.230 BA, .660 OPS) while Locke has pitched credibly against St. Louis in the past with a 3.82 ERA over 33 career innings.

Compete with the Mastersball staff at FantasyScore here.

Greinke should be the safest SP. Like your argument for Locke, who's dirt cheap. Loading up on hitters in Colorado.

p - greinke, locke
c - pierzynski
1b - vmartinez
2b - dgordon
3b - arenado
ss - tulowitski
of - jmartinez, markakis, kjohnson
