A happy Mastersball 50/50 Challenge Day to all of you on a day when we have some pretty fun contests to sort through.
Yesterday I mistakenly confused the strikeout capabilities of the Royals (who don't strike out) with the Astros (who do) in first assessing starting pitching. I did update my post, swapping out Michael Pineda for Madison Bumgarner, which turned out to be a good move.
Well, today, I am going with Gerrit Cole ($8700), who does indeed strike out batters, against the young Cubs, who do indeed whiff a bunch, pairing him with one of the more consistant starters this year, Zack Greinke ($8600) versus the Rockies at home.
However, there is a bad weather caveat for games in Chicago, Baltimore, and Cincinnati, so do check the weather before finalizing your rosters (I will indeed check in with a comment should I pull Cole).
That is indeed a lot of salary cap loaded into my pitchers, but as we know, all things seem to flow from a good starter and some whiffs.
So, with the high priced starters, I looked to a couple of outfield bargains in Shin-Soo Choo ($3100) who has been smoking hot of late against right-hander Danny Salazar, and then Mark Canha ($3000) who faces lefty John Danks. I have found that there are indeed points to be gained out of those platoons!
That is it for today. Don't forget you can take us on at FantasyScore.
