FScore-160x320For Thursday, you can find me in my regular spot - the Mastersball Daily 50-50 GPP contest with $135 in prizes available for just a $5 entry fee. Do not delay if you want to join as the Mastersball contests continue to quickly fill up each day.

Here are a few of my picks.

On the pitching side, I am going for the top available options.

The highest-priced pitcher of the day at $8900 is Cincinnati’s Johnny Cueto. What is not to like? He is effective (8.2 strikeouts per nine, 2.98 ERA), durable (over seven innings per start) and is taking on a Giants team against which he has a 1.98 career ERA in five starts.

Tyson Ross is an under-the-radar fantasy standout. Though his 1-3 record and 3.98 ERA hardly catches one’s eye, the lack of run support continues in San Diego despite all those high-profile trades over the winter. Ross is fanning 10.6 batters per nine this season, though the right-hander does have to face the Washington Nationals. At least it will be at home at Petco Park. Spend the $6800.

Adrian Gonzalez ($5700) has been gold this season against both left-handed and right-handed pitching and I like it to continue. He draws the Rockies’ Chad Bettis (career 6.88 ERA) at Dodger Stadium, where he is batting .384 and has launched six of his nine home runs.

Play along with us here.

I ended up with a first-place finish by eight points with my three mentioned above plus Derek Norris each scoring eight points or more.

yeah, i took Valbuena...i want to trust Lincecum, and he is at least becoming a junk baller, but I fear whether or not the Giants can generate any damage against Cueto.

2nd thoughts on Lincecum, so swapped in Elias. Conger out, so put in mccann and swapped hamilton in for bautista.

p - cueto, elias
c - mccann
1b - teixeira
2b - pedroia
3b - valbuena
ss - bogaerts
of - hamilton, ellsbury, gardner (considered betts instead of hamilton)

I like Brian's picks of Cueto and Agone. Houston has some cheap lefties with pop against righty Drew Hutchison.

and 9k/9, so what's not to like? But the game in SD, and to a lesser extent LA, have rare rain concerns this evening, so avoiding them. 2nd SP choice is difficult - opted for the revitalized Lincecum.

p - cueto, lincecum
c - conger (punting, not sure he's starting)
1b - teixeira
2b - pedroia
3b - valbuena
ss - bogaerts
of - bautista, ellsbury, gardner

Ross has been a much differet, and better pitcher for the Padres. 2+ years of around a 3 ERA,

i went Cueto and Fister (i saw so much of Ross on Oakland that I am tainted for life).

Agree about Agone, too. Like some Nats, too: Spann, and for sure Harper till he tells me otherwise.
