Monday 22nd May 2017

Today, with a full complement of MLB games, the pool of players to choose from for FantasyScore Mastersball 50/50 Challenge is large.

Todd's first rule of daily FantasyScore is "nail the pitching." Agreed, but how much should we spend? The result of my recent experiments is “do not go cheap on pitching.” More on that next time.

With that in mind, I thought of going with Chris Sale ($7900) but his last two outings were subpar, making me stay away. I do like Jake Arrieta ($7900), who is going against a new kid from the Mets, and Collin McHugh ($6600), who has averaged seven-plus innings recently. Both are pitching at home, which, in my opinion, is an important consideration.

As for the hitters, two games should arouse particular interest. The Angels rested on Monday and are at home against Colorado’s Kyle Kendrick, who has an ERA of 8.73. I like Albert Pujols ($4800) and Kole Calhoun ($4200). Of course, I always like Mike Trout ($6400), but with him, the budget becomes an issue.

The other good source of hitters is the Toronto/Baltimore game. Here, we have budget-buster Devon Travis ($5300), hitting atop the Toronto lineup, and Adam Jones ($6100).

As I said, easy picking today. The success though may come from combining some of these expensive batters with a few reasonably priced ones, such as David Freese ($2700).

Join me today at FantasyScore Mastersball 50/50 Challenge.

Second thoughts, as I noticed that Buehrle's had a couple of decent starts against BAL. Got off Machado and Paredes, as well.

And one streak will have to go for Rays SP Chris Archer - so will he right the ship after a few bad starts or remember he is facing the Yankees at home at team he is 5-0 against with an ERA under 2.00

Love Adam Jones today; he is on my list, see article above, even at his high salary

True Pasko and so many players who normally start off today but Travis one of the most important. Adam Lind sitting against the tough LHP Chris Sale.

The one hitter I didn't see on lists here that should be in play is Adam Jones home vs Mark Buehrle who he has over .400 career average

Quoting alleyoops:
Wilson's not a high K guy, but the Angels figure to knock around Kendrick, so the W should be there.

Rox K-rate versus LHP, especially on the road, is through the roof.

Quoting alleyoops:
While it's a full slate, it's also a tough one, IMO. There are no "automatic" pitching plays. I opted to go with Wilson and Burnett - two of the largest favorites. Burnett's been solid, and although it's a road start, it's against the Phillies. Wilson's not a high K guy, but the Angels figure to knock around Kendrick, so the W should be there.

Took out Hardy, who's been struggling and doesn't have good numbers vs Buehrle, and put in AEscobar, who's been hot and leading off for a team that should score some runs.
