Thursday 21st Sep 2017

Even for a day like today, an unheralded Thursday, the matchups offer plenty of FantasyScore options.

It seems that most of us begin setting the roster up by first eyeing the pitchers. That makes sense because pitchers take the biggest budget chunk, but they also lead to the most points. For me, playing the premiere starter route has led to success, but today's starting pitcher options are pointing me to the opposite strategy: go with inexpensive hurlers.

For example, Nick Martinez ($4300) has been outstanding so far this year, thus he is one choice.

As far as the hitters, two teams will face pitchers with a high ERA: The Yankees are playing against Chris Tillman ($4400 for an ERA of 6.23) and San Diego will see Rubby De La Rosa ($3300 at 5.40). That means lefty outfielders Brett Gardner ($4500) and Jacoby Ellsbury ($5900) are solid plays, along with Matt Kemp ($5700) and Justin Upton ($5600). All are solid higher priced options if you go the cheap starter route.

However, to complement your team with low priced hitters, look at Miami/San Francisco. From this game, Nori Aoki ($2000), Joe Panik ($2200) and Martin Prado ($3000) are worth targeting.

My team is set in stone at the FantasyScore Mastersball Daily 50/50 contest. Join the fun and take me on.

Why do you prefer D over B? I usually go with the home favorite over the visiting dog.

Kiermaier and Machado both leading off -- yum.

Quoting alleyoops:
With the limited slate, no reason to skimp on salary anywhere, IMO.

p - archer, burnett
c - mccann
1b - cdavis
2b - gordon (like him more than altuve tonight)
3b - arodriguez (r vs r, but hitting righties well, and no other good 3b options)
ss - crawford (not many decent ss options)
of - ellsbury, gardner, polanco

Like this is tourney - cash, not so much. Prefer to spread it around in cash.

I actually like DeSclafani more than Burnett tonight -- entering the BBHQ GPP and practicing what I preach.

i totally agree with Todd re: Archer in principle, and, my ego doesn't seem to like succeeding or failing in an attrition where we all either gain the same 12 points, or lose the same -1.3 (Sam Deduno yesterday).

So, I went Burnett hoping for some innings and whiffs. OTOH, it allows me to take Altuve and some pricey guys.

My other crapshoot is Loney at first ($2100) against Martinez (been good, but so was Greene, Cueto, blah blah woof woof).

The Reds vs Pirates is a matchup to pay attention to. AJ Burnett has been good this year. His lack of wins is entirely due to the Pirates not hitting. Definitively a good choice for DFS 50/50.

Agree with Lawr's take on the pitchers. AJ Burnett at home with his low salary is the sweet spot. I see a lot of good choices in Yankee stadium tonight and I'm tempted to stack left handed hitters from both dugouts.

Warning: according to morning reports Brett Gardner is questionable today

I don't like Martinez for DFS -- doesn't miss enough bats and DFS scoring is different than what traditional fantasy players intuitively think about. Strikeouts are far more important than run and hit prevention.

The night slate begins and ends with Archer. On Score where you need a second there will be some diversification, but in a 50/50, Archer is a must-have.
