A new month, a new week, a new day, and hopefully a new team will help drag me up from my ping-ponging team, which finished 20th Week 1, fourth Week 2, and 30th last week. So much for consistency.
I found grabbing a starting pitcher the really daunting chore within this week's roster moves. With Max Scherzer ($10,500) matching up against Matt Harvey ($10,300), I just did not feel comfortable with what could be a cosmic attrition of numbers. Plus, every time we have a dream pitching match-up, it seems the final score is 10-8, so I just eschewed that game.
Simiarly, I do like Scott Kazmir ($9200) a lot, but a lefty going at it in Rangerland--where Prince Fielder ($3100) and his mates have some pop--makes me equally uncomfortable, so I went with the more obscure and unknown.
That would be the Giants' Chris Heston ($6100). I saw Heston pitch in the spring (in fact I drafted him on my reserves in LABR) and he has a good sinker and can cull the whiffs. Pitching at home, against an Angels team that has no book on him is where I am going, Mike Trout or not.
Conversely, a Southpaw (C.J. Wilson, $7800) at ATT makes me happy to spend the money parlayed by grabbing a cheaper starter on Buster Posey ( $3500) and another big stick, Troy Tulowitzki ($4300), also at home in Colorado.
Hopefully, they will bring me a top finish and some bacon, right?
