Jaime Garcia is allegedly not in the St. Louis Cardinals’ fifth starter derby with Kyle McClellan and Rich Hill supposedly in the lead. Pitching coach extraordinare Dave Duncan has taken the pressure off the 23-year-old, saying he may need more Triple-A time coming off 2008 Tommy John surgery.
On Saturday vs. the Marlins, Garcia was given late-inning duty. After a leadoff walk, the lefty impressively retired nine straight, fanning three. Only one ball made it as far as the outfield.
McClellan and Hill are scheduled to make their first appearances on Sunday. Keep an eye on this situation, as I believe Garcia has the most talent of the three.
