Ike Davis goes way deep for the Mets...
In an odd and ugly game that featured a knuckleballer on each club but little effective pitching, the Cardinals invaded Port St. Lucie to take on the Mets Thursday. The most impressive play of the day was by Mets first base prospect Ike Davis, who hit a grand slam and coaxed a pair of walks from wild Cardinals minor league pitchers.
Davis’ hit just wasn’t any grand slam. It flew over the berm in right field and landed on the concrete of the picnic area at the top. On the other hand, Davis also made his second fielding error in two games while Daniel Murphy looked good defensively in his time in the game. It is still way too early to tell whether the top prospect has a chance of making the club.
Edit: For completeness, I should also have noted that Mike Jacobs is in Mets camp, further complicating the battle.
