I know many of you are waiting for the AFL Prospect Review Part II, but it is quite a project and there are at least two players from the 2012 AFL that I believe will be selected in Thursday’s Rule V draft because for whatever reasons they weren’t protected (i.e. added to 40 man roster) by the November 30 deadline. So I want to make my comments about those players relative to their new teams because they will have more fantasy worth for 2013. In the meantime I thought I would show you the players that MLB.com released as their “Top Prospects”. This is how the players would look if we were looking at the roster as a team First team Second Team C – Mike Zunino, SEA Austin Romine, NYY 1B – Chris McGuiness, TEX Jonathan Singleton, HOU 2B – Nick Franklin, SEA Kolten Wong, STL 3B – Anthony Rendon, WAS Cody Asche, PHL SS – Didi Gregorius, CIN Nick Ahmed, ATL OF – Billy Hamilton, CIN Josh Prince, MLW OF – Rymer Liriano, SD Nate Roberts, MIN OF – Christian Yelich, MIA Kyle Jensen, MIA DH – Matt Skole, WAS Bryce Brentz, BOS SP – Kyle Gibson, MIN and Justin Marks, KC RP – Kevin Quackenbush, SD and Mark Montgomery, NYY No strangers for readers of the AFL Blog and almost all covered in the AFL Prospect Review Here is the official release: by Tom Singer, MLB.com “Seven organizations each boast two representatives on the Arizona Fall League's Top Prospects Team, announced Monday afternoon. The Reds (outfielder Billy Hamilton and shortstop Didi Gregorius), the Padres (outfielder Rymer Liriano and reliever Kevin Quackenbush), the Marlins (outfielders Christian Yelich and Kyle Jensen), the Twins (outfielder Nate Roberts and starting pitcher Kyle Gibson), the Nationals (third baseman Anthony Rendon and DH Matt Skole), the Mariners (catcher Mike Zunino and second baseman Nick Franklin) and the Yankees (catcher Austin Romine and reliever Mark Montgomery) each placed two honorees on the 22-man squad. Fifteen different organizations are represented among the players selected by AFL managers and coaches, based on how they performed during the league's six-week season and on how they project as future Major Leaguers. League MVP, first baseman Chris McGuiness, is the lone member of the Rangers on the team. Position players also chosen to the squad were outfielder Josh Prince (Brewers), third baseman Cody Asche (Phillies), shortstop Nick Ahmed (Braves), second baseman Kolten Wong (Cardinals), first baseman Jonathan Singleton (Astros) and DH Bryce Brentz (Red Sox). Starting pitcher Justin Marks (Royals) rounds out the Prospects Team staff.” |
